That’s most likely because the SSL client sometimes will overwrite the DNS settings for your network adapter. You just need to update them via the widget so that they match what your provider wants you to use (if you don’t have a router) or to be your router’s internal address (if you have one).

Oh, forgot to add, I’m on the new Mac Air, Lion. ALso, completely uninstalled Watchguard SSL and OpenVPN and now I straight up cannot connect to the internet. Cannot download the Watchguard again, cuz I cannot connect to the internet. Hence, the $1300 paper weight comment.

That’s all well and good, my issues is that now I cannot connect to the internet WITHOUT going through the Watchguard. The wireless connect no problem, but when I try to load a webpage, nothing. I have to connect to the Watchguard, but then I’m subject to my companies web filter. Which is fine when I’m working, but when I’m done, I’d like to be able to logoff and browse Facebook or Netflix. IT has looked at and can’t figure it out. I now have a $1300 paper weight. Anyone who can help me out can have my first born. Thanks!

I try everything you mentioned and it didn’t work, but I found a solid solution:

1) Connect to the VPN on a windows machine using watchguard mobile.

2) If you’re on a windows 7 machine go to the folder:

C:\Users\*your_user_name*\AppData\Roaming\Watchguard\Mobile VPN\

And copy all the contents of this folder

3) Go to you Mac machine and download tunnelblick:

http://code.google.com/p/tunnelblick/

4) Launch and follow the instructions at the beginning and when it ask you about the folder with your configuration, take all the files that you copied from the 2 step and paste them all in this folder.

5) Now try to connect and enter the credentials when ask

6) That’s it!

Remember that once you are connected the DNS may be overwritten while the session is up. If you like to change this play with the configuration about ‘Set Nameservers’.

I’ve done everything you tried with no luck. (32-bit mode, install Watchguard, install OpenVPN, install TunTap). I’m still getting “Could not download the VPN configuration.” However I’m not sure what OpenVPN “with macports” means. Is that important? I just installed the Mac client from the openvpn.net homepage.

Running:
OS X 10.7.2
Watchguard v11.2.1 (according to my company’s IT)

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

i installed the watchguard vpn client in 32-bit mode. then installed openvpn with macports. lastly, i installed the tuntap extension from tuntaposx.sourceforge.net and rebooted.

the watchguard client works, but i need to click through a message stating ‘The tun & tap system extensions may not be properly installed’.

as i say, after clicking through that message the client works, but it’s a bit annoying. anyone else experience this?

fantastic. thanks for the info. installed watchguard ssl client by holding down 3 and 2 to enter 32bit mode. then installed tun/tap, worked like a charm without a reboot.
